So you ask what's MALY??

Your probably wondering why my blog is called Maly and what is it.

Maly is little girl that inspired me to start this blog, well one of many.  Although i have no clue exactly where she is from or how old she is now her story impacted me beyond words. What i do know about this little girl is that she is a courageous, independent and has emotional strength like I've never even heard of. Here is her story:

Maly was a toddler when her mother became ill with tuberculosis and could no longer work. Maly's father had dies earlier. At six, Maly was foraging for food to feel her mother. At age ten, she was begging, but instead of giving her alms the men would sexually exploit her first.

She earned a $1 or so from this child prostitution, and she would buy her mother some food. Her mother was not aware of what Maly had to go through in order to get that simple plate of rice on the table. She never told her mother, because she felt too much shame. When her mother would her if she had eaten she would often lie and say yes, just so her mother would eat all the food.  Maly eventually contracted an STD.

When Maly was 11 she was gang raped while scrounging for food.  She was then institutionalized in a government facility, but soon after escaped and roamed the streets for many years.

This is just one out of the 27 Million people's story in slavery today.  Not only does this happen in Southeast Asia it is currently happening in Australia, Europe, Africa, USA(including Philadelphia) and so many others.

2 children are sold every minute into Human Trafficking.

Maly's story as well as thousands of others have touched my heart and given me the drive to fight this.

My first blog!!

Hello Everyone!

This is my first blog so I just want to introduce myself  and say what I am about.  My name is Arielle I'm a college student with social work as my major.  Ultimately, I'd love to open up my own non-profit in Philadelphia,  dealing with Human Trafficking- we will get to that in my later blogs, I could talk for hours about that :)  Let's see, what else is there to say.... well I am absolutely obsessed with make up <3 I could sit and read Allure magazine for hours. I am so looking forward to being able to wear my tall boots and scarves this fall.  I desperately  want to visit Greece and intern at a non prof there.  While i fully understand I can be a complete girly girl at times I love to play soccer! A random fact about me is that , despite my pale features, I am 50% Puerto Rican! As most Puerto Rican's I am proud to be one- except sadly I have yet to learn how to cook rice & beans-In a way I am a disgrace to my family as most latino girls know how to cook by age 10 :)....(Totally kidding)  My family is crazy and chaotic at times but i can say i have learned so much from them.

These past two years in college i can whole- heartedly say that I am a changed woman. HA as odd as it sounds its so true! I feel like i have developed into the person i want to be. (Although there is definitely room for improvement) I finally feel like I know what my "purpose" is.  I guess I sort of found myself in a way- It's really exciting to be honest.  And as I continue to walk this journey I am excited to see what else is in store for me and to see my friends do the same!  Now, I should warn you, as I am sure you have already noticed, I probably have a million typos throughout my blog -OOPS  oh well , and i may not have written in the most grammatically proper way but I want this blog to be true raw emotions and I am writing exactly as I feel and think.  In my opinion its definitely more entertaining to read. Soo please just bare with me. I'd love responses and ideas back if you have any suggestions etc.
